Miller shabodeho@aol.com November 15, 2008, 10:00 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News from 11/3/2008 Bashore, Esther Esther Bashore of Bethel, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away November 2, 2008. Born October 7, 1920, in Greenwich Township, she is the daughter of the late Mahlon J. and Alverta M. (Kunkle) Roth. She is predeceased by a brother, Norman Roth; and a sister, Anna Piger, both of Breiningsville. Esther leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Curtis Bashore; a son, Barry Bashore (wife Joanne) of Bethel; Carol Lane (husband Francis) of Melrose, Mass., Donna Reber (husband John) of Wernersville, Connie Steinrock of Wyomissing, Karen Bashore (husband Bert) of Boca Raton, Fla., and Cheryl Gates (husband Barry) of Annville. In addition, there are 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Esther was a 1961 graduate of the Lebanon School of Beauty, and owned and operated Esther's Beauty Shop in Bethel for 42 years, retiring in 2003 at the age of 83. When not working, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting and playing the piano. Also very active in the community, Esther was a member of Eastern Star, Conrad Weiser Chapter 449, for 49 years, the Lionettes and Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, where she worked on several committees. Esther was committed to helping those in need - feeding and housing families new to the area, or providing support for members of the community, giving urban children an opportunity to experience country life through the Fresh Air Program, visiting the elderly, and taking care of family. Services will be held on November 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Little Swatara Church of the Brethren, 31 Rehrersburg Road, PO Box M, Bethel, PA 19507. Interment will be at Merkey's Cemetery, Bethel Township. Friends may call November 5th from 9-11 a.m. in the church. Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Swatara Church of the Brethren at the above address.
