Bergen, 86, of Myerstown died Monday, January 14, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, Pa. He was the husband of Natalie Wiedemann Bergen. Together they had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He was very devoted to his wife and family. They had lived in Morristown, N.J., for 20 years, Bloomsburg, Pa., for seven years, Wycoff, N.J., for 10 years, Ellicott City, Md., for 20 years, and the last 2 1/2 years in Myerstown, Pa. Born in Southold, Long Island, N.Y., on January 30, 1921, he was the son of the late Thomas and Fanny Olmstead Bergen. He was the 17th of 18 children. He was a business administrator for McGregorDoniger Sportswear in Dover, N.J., for many years. He was a graduate of Riverhead High School where he played varsity baseball, basketball and football. He was a 1944 graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y. He loved all sports, was a golf enthusiast, an avid New York Yankees fan, a world traveler and loved to do crossword puzzles. He was a life long United Methodist, having been a member of Catonsville United Methodist Church in Catonsville, Md., and most recently Zion United Methodist Church, Myerstown, Pa. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Patricia Kutch of Dover, N.J., Barbara Kopeski of Myerstown, Pa., and Nancy Ochsner of Merced, Calif. (formerly of Ellicott City, Md.); nine grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday January 26, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church, Myerstown, Pa. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be the Zion UMC Memorial Fund, 22 E. Main Ave., Myerstown, Pa. 17067. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 126 S. Ninth St. Lebanon, Pa., in charge of arrangements.
