Miller shabodeho@aol.com July 11, 2008, 12:08 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 7/1/2008 Gene L. Bush Sr., Gene L. Bush Sr., 81, of Hershey passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Unaque, New Jersey, on December 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Tony and Mary Bonifacio Bush. Gene retired with 50 years service from the Hershey Foods Corporation. He was a member of the Class of 1943 of the former Hummelstown High School. Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the Philippines on the U.S.S. California. He was a member of the Church of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, Hershey. Gene was also life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1687 of Hummelstown, and an active member of the Hershey Italian Lodge. He was a coin collector and enjoyed gardening. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gladys R. Shellenhamer Bush, on April 8, 2005; and by a daughter, Rose M. Bush in August of 1951. He is survived by one son, Gene L. Bush. Jr. of Wellsboro; two daughters, Nancy L. Witmer, wife of Jesse K. of Wellsboro, and Barbara A. Bush of Palmyra; one sister, M. Joyce Ney, wife of Glenn C. of Hummelstown; six grandchildren, Sara Bush Hanes, wife of Paul, Jack Witmer, husband of Jessica, and Kevin Witmer, fianc" of Kathy Boom, all of Wellsboro, Gina Nicole Bush of Springfield, Ore., Larry Barbour of State College, and Rosemarie Barbour of Palmyra; and three greatgrandchildren, Amanda Lynn Hanes, Lillyanne Kimberly Witmer, and Uriah Ellis Witmer, all of Wellsboro. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 12 p.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with the Rev. Betsy E. Bruaw, his pastor, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Friends are invited to view at the funeral home, Wednesday, July 2, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 7/1/2008.
