"Sonny" Cassel Jr., 69, of Jonestown, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at his home. Born Aug. 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Lester L. and Marie Luttrell Cassel. For many years he was a selfemployed entrepreneur. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in various positions in organizations and associations that included being the past Grand National Cemetery Chairman, a former Commander of 40 et 8, past Central Region Commander of Amvets and also served on their honor guard. He was instrumental in working with the National Recruiter to reinstate the American Legion Post 55 of Myerstown for many years. He dedicated very much of his time and money in starting the Navy Ship Club #91 in Lebanon and Amvets Post #293 in Lebanon. He was very active in many veteran's organizations and associations as well as having lifetime memberships in various clubs in Lebanon County. He is survived by his sons Lester L."Tim" Cassel III of Jonestown; Curtis W., husband of Debra Cassel of Grantville; and Shane V. Cassel of Lebanon; daughters Tammy L., wife of Anthony Carni of Spotsylvania, Va.; Karen L., wife of Marlin Spangler Jr., Jonestown; and Tiffany M. Frankin of Ore.; a brother Franklin Cassel of Strausstown; and foster brother Benny Feite of Palmyra; three grandchildren Patricia Cassel, Kaelee Spangler and Breann Spangler and two great- grandchildren RyAnn and Riley. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ronald and Larry Cassel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, 5 Camp Meeting Road, Jonestown. Viewing will be on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to the service. Interment will be at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 40 et 8, c/o Richard Bleistine, 535 N. 9th St., Lebanon, PA 17042.
