"Marti" DeLoatche, 85, of Palmyra passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2008, at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. She was the wife of the late Walter S. DeLoatche, who died on April 14, 1997. She was born on January 13, 1923, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Herbert and Ellen (Kirby) Jones. She graduated from Maury High School School in Norfolk, Virginia, and managed several airports in Norfolk, Virginia, and Manteo, North Carolina, with her husband. She obtained her pilot's license in 1942, and enjoyed flying private planes. She was a member of "The NinetyNines" of the International Organization of Women Pilots. After moving to Falls Church, Virginia, in 1952, she worked in the Pentagon. She retired in 1973, and moved to North Port, Florida, where she was very active in local politics and the homeowner's association board. She relocated to Palmyra, Pennsylvania, in 1996, and lived at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home since 2001. She attended St. John's United Methodist Church, Grantville, Pa. Her interests included flying, airplanes, bowling, playing pinochle, gardening and traveling. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Rhoad and her husband, Ernest of Sun City Center, Florida; a granddaughter, Donna Eyler and her husband, Greg of Palmyra; a grandson, Donald Rhoad and his wife, Karen of Camp Hill; and three great-grandchildren, Shelby Eyler, Eric Rhoad and Adam Rhoad. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ralph Oliver DeLoatche, on April 21, 1981. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, Grantville, Pa., with Pastor Dennis Adams officiating.
