DeSantis, 95, formerly of Hershey passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008, at his home in Traditions of Hershey. He was born April 24, 1913, in Riddlesburg, Pa., a son of the late Peter and Loretta (Fioranti) DeSantis. Mr. DeSantis retired as a foreman from the former Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, with 22 years of service. He then worked another 10 years in the mail room of the Pennsylvania State Capitol, and later drove school bus for the Derry Township School District. Jim was an avid vegetable gardener, and was noted for his tomatoes, but especially his beautiful Hotel Hershey Roses, which he would give to receptionists, waitresses and clerks; so much, so that he became affectionately known as "the rose man." Jim was of the Catholic faith, and a member of the Olmsted Retirees Club, the Annville VFW, and the Campbelltown American Legion.. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Pamela (Hill) Carlew DeSantis; eight children, Anna DeSantis Stuck of Mechanicsburg, Barbara DeSantis Haas of Palmyra, Virginia Carlew of Campbelltown, Cathryn Corlew of Troy, N.Y., Don Michael Corlew of Ripley, Tenn., John Corlew of Martinez, Ga., Thomas Carlew of Halls, Tenn., Lewis Corlew of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Anna Peters of Palmyra; 18 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., Route No. 422 and Lucy Avenue in Hershey. A visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Hershey Cemetery. Jim loved flowers but, if desired, memorial contributions may be made to PinnacleHealth Hospice, 3705 Elmwood Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
