Miller shabodeho@aol.com June 12, 2008, 5:37 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 6/4/2008 Duricko, Dorothy Elizabeth Dorothy Elizabeth Duricko, 87, of Lebanon died Monday morning after a brief illness at Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, Pa. She lived by herself after the death of her husband, Alex Duricko, in 2002. Born in Orange, N.J., November 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Thomson, Esquire, originally from Scotland, and the late Edith Betts Thomson from England. She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice. Dorothy was educated in the public schools of Orange, N.J., and completed her registered nursing education and training at Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. During her career, she worked as both a private duty nurse and a supervising hospital nurse in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and during World War II in San Francisco. She was also a bus driver in San Francisco, driving the SF - Sausalito route. She was active in the Federal Civil Defense Program, a longtime member and officer in the Parent Teacher Association, and a writer of poetry. She was formerly a member of Bethania Presbyterian Church, Scranton. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who was liked by everyone who knew her as a nurse and in the community. A devotedly spiritual person, who loved gospel hymns. Dorothy also enjoyed continued learning throughout her life. Surviving are two sons, Allen Duricko and his wife, Erma of Gouldsboro, Pa., and William Duricko and his wife, Barbara of Lebanon, Pa.; four grandchildren, Robert, Jeffrey, Kathryn and Marissa; greatgrandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, at 11:30 a.m. at the gravesite – Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Luciotti, pastor of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Lebanon, is officiating. Dorothy Duricko will be interred with her late husband, Alex.
