Elliott LEBANON Frederick Richard Elliott, 88, of Lebanon died Saturday morning in the Good Samaritan Hospital after a brief illness. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who always thought of others before himself. His optimistic attitude and strong faith enabled him to overcome the challenges he experienced in life. Born in Scotland, Pa., he was the son of the late Sara Bard Donnachie and William Elliott. He is survived by E. Josephine Rodenkirch, his wife of 56 years; daughter Barbara Miller and son- in-law Adam Miller of Annville; grandchildren Rachel Miller of Cambridge, Mass., and Adam E. Miller of Philadelphia. Survivors also include sisters Nancy Donnachie of Manheim, and Margie Krotec of Palmyra; and brothers John "Pat," husband of Marion Donnachie, and Tom, husband of Betty Donnachie of Lebanon; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers William Elliott, Robert Donnachie; and his stepfather, Thomas Donnachie. He worked his entire career in the Lebanon Bethlehem Steel Mill. An avid golfer, he caddied as a boy growing up at the Lebanon Country Club, where he lived with his family for many years. He still often shot under his age last year at Blue Mountain Golf Club, where he was a member for many years. He was a member of the Lebanon VFW Post 23. He was a member of The Church of St. Cecilia, where he served as an usher. A model of "The Greatest Generation," he served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II, and landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day +1. He served in the Army's 834th Aviation Engineers, B Company, and built airfields in France, Germany and England. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict, and until his discharge just prior to being deployed to Korea. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10 from The Church of St. Cecilia, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon 17046. Interment Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing hours Tuesday evening from 6-8 and Wednesday morning 99:30 at Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 126 S. Ninth St. Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Cecilia's Church.
