Etter, 77, of East Broad Street, Palmyra, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at his home. Born May 3, 1931, in South Hanover Township, Dauphin County, he was a son of the late John S. and Eliza (Gelsinger) Etter. After retiring as a welder from Hersheypark, he worked 12 years as a PTR in Hersheypark utilities. He was a member of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, Travelers Protective Association, Hershey Italian Lodge, Dauphin County Firemen's Association, Brownstone Lodge No. 666 F. & A.M., Harrisburg Consistory; a life member of the Hershey Fire Company and American Legion Post No. 386, Hershey, where he was a past commander. Additionally, he was a past commander of the Dauphin County American Legion, a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the 193rd Special Operations Support Group, Air National Guard, Middletown. Surviving are his wife Thelma (Lebo) Etter; children Ellis J., husband of Diane Etter of Fort Myers, Florida, Stephen E., husband of Ellen Etter of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and Sherry L. Bancroft of Hershey; step- children Lester Fawber and companion Tom Dibeler, Donna Fawber Via, and Mary Fawber and friend Phil Denci all of Palmyra; sister Esther Basehore of Meyersdale; grandchildren Eliza Etter, Ethan Etter, and Julie Bancroft; stepgrandchildren Kahlem Fawber, Kolin Fawber, Shane Via, Kyra Via, Brady McClure, and Sarah, wife of Andy Textor; and step-greatgrandson Carter Andrew Textor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Etter; sister Katherine Clark; and granddaughter Alexandra Etter. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008, at Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 North Chestnut Street, Palmyra. Viewing 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, and 10 – 11 a.m. Monday, both at the church. Burial, with military honors, will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, 45 North Chestnut Street, Palmyra, PA 17078; or the American Heart Association, PO Box 1263, Lebanon, PA 17042.
