Ewen, Elizabeth Kerr Elizabeth Kerr Ewen HANOVER Elizabeth Kerr Ewen, 85, of Hanover, Pa., and formerly of York, Pa., and Williamsburg, Va., passed peacefully on Friday, February 29, 2008, at Homewood at Plum Creek. She was the loving wife of 61 years to Edward Coryell Ewen of Hanover. She was born June 28, 1922, in Harrisburg, the daughter of the late John Kleiser and Myrtle (Koser) Krause. At the age of five, she was adopted by the late Dr. James DeWitt and Catherine Sarah (Krause) Kerr of Lebanon, Pa. Mrs. Ewen graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in music and did postgraduate work at Penn State University. She was supervisor of Music in the Stewartstown public schools from 1944-1946. She was an active member of the Music Program at Williamsburg United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, Va., and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, York, Pa. Mrs. Ewen played piano for Sunday school classes and directed handbell choirs in various churches. After moving to Hanover, she became a member of First United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Jacoby and her husband Michael of Seven Valleys, Pa.; son, the Rev. James Albert Ewen and his wife Ellen of Sunderland, Mass.; sister-in-law, Alberta Vosburgh of Bridgewater, N.J.; grandchildren, Michael Coryell Jacoby and his wife Jennifer of Dallastown, Pa., Jennifer Elizabeth Smitka and her husband Joseph of Chambersburg, Pa., and Christopher Wells Ewen of Syracuse, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Krause; stepmother, Ada (Boyer) Kerr; and brotherin-law, Leonard W. Vosburgh. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Homewood of Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, Pa., with the Rev. Dr. John Morgan from First Presbyterian Church in York, Pa., officiating. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Ewen's memory may be made to Homewood at Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA 17331; or to Lebanon Valley College, 101 North College Ave., Annville, PA 17003.
