Fansler, 81, of 964 Orchard Road, Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Mervin and Mary Reider Fansler. John was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Amphibious Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired in 1988 after working 43 years for the former Raymark Industries, Manheim. He was the husband of P. Floye Bingeman Fansler, and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary in April of this year. John was of the Lutheran faith, and was a life member of the Lancaster Navy Club Ship 166, the Manheim VFW Post 5956, the Ammon K. Gibble American Legion Post 419, Manheim, and the Manheim Historical Society. Throughout the years, he volunteered with his wife with the Manheim Veterans Memorial Ambulance Association, and with the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lebanon. John was an avid hunter and fisherman; he was known for his abilities as a craftsman with wood, and his special painted glass items that he made. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John J. Jr., husband of Judy L. Weidman Fansler of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Krista Fansler Miller, wife of Jordan Miller of Lancaster; three greatgranddaughters, Lauren, Kaitlin, Natalie; three brothers, Mervin, husband of Maryanna Fansler of Annville, Marvin, husband of Marian Fansler of Bernville, William, husband of Ruthie Fansler of Annville; five sisters, Mary Hostetter of Palmyra, Fern Folk of Harrisburg, Eldora, husband of Jim Gleim of Shippensburg, Larue Miller of Palmyra, and Esther, wife of Jay Snook of Bainbridge. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Monday, November 17, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Wilbur G. Lehman officiating. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with additional viewing time on Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
