Flashel, 73, of 1007 Alden Way, Cornwall, died Saturday, January 5, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara Robson Flashel and the late Josephine Martel Flashel. Born in Lebanon on October 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Joseph and Susan Reb Flashel. He was a past product distribution manager of Totes Inc. of Lancaster, Pa., and retired from the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was a member of The Church of St. Cecilia and head usher. He chaired the annual church festival and picnic, and was an active volunteer with the Faustnaucht sale and bingo nights. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Lebanon Valley Sports Hall of Fame. He was past commander and a life member of the Lebanon VFW Post 23, where he was currently employed. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, cooking, traveling and watching his favorite sports teams: Penn State University, the Indianapolis Colts and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Lake Champlain from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Trusty Shellback Society. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Dawn Gaynor, wife of Dr. Lawrence Gaynor of Denver, Colo., Christopher J. Flashel of Lebanon and Suzette Flashel Umlauf, wife of Dr. Perry Umlauf of Lebanon; three stepchildren, William C. Robson, husband of Tracey of Greenville, S.C., Robin Rader, wife of Phillip of Mt. Gretna, and R. Bruce Robson, husband of Suzanne of Louisville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; one brother, Frank J. Flashel of Vineland, N.J.; and a sister, Mary Ann Lindsay of Jasper, Ind. He was preceded in death by sisters, Francis and Catherine Flashel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 from the Church of St. Cecilia, 202 E. Lehman St., Lebanon 17046. Interment on St. Gertrude's Cemetery. Viewing hours will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 with a vigil service at 7, and Wednesday morning 9-9:30 at Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 126 S. Ninth St. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 335 S. Eighth St., Lebanon 17042; or "Team Discovery" Relay for Life of the American Cancer Society, Box 1274, Lebanon 17042.
