Gassert, 89, formerly of Bernville died March 25, 2008, at 11:25 p.m. in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, where he had been a patient three weeks. He was admitted there from Southeastern Veterans Center, Spring City, where he had resided since August 2005. His wife, Kathryn L. (Neuin) Gassert, died February 18, 2002. Born in Myerstown, he was a son of the late David D. and Mabel (Reedy) Gassert. He was employed by the former Berkshire Knitting Mill, and lastly as a harness maker for Bernville Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1987. He was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a signal corps-man in the Fifth Army, seeing combat in Africa and Italy. He was a member of St. John's Host Church, Tulpehocken Township. He is survived by one daughter, Jane L. (Gassert) Noll of Temple; and one grandson, Terry L. Fetterman Jr. of Pine Grove; and three greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 N. Main Street, Bernville, with the Rev. Larry Longenecker officiating. Following the service, burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
