Gay, 91, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Cedar Haven in Lebanon, Pa. Born in Canton, Ohio, on June 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John Otterbein Shildts and Bessie May Hoagland Shildts. The wife of Don R. Gay, who died in 1985, she is survived by her daughter, Donna Jeanne Gay Grun Kaplan, wife of Melvyn Kaplan of Mt. Gretna, Pa.; her sons, David R. Gay, husband of Doris Gene Briggs Gay of Felton, Pa., John P. Gay, husband of Wynnafred Hicking Gay of Laurinburg, N.C. Her beloved grandchildren are Ellen Grun Hunter, wife of Keith A. Hunter of Dallas, Pa., Emily Grun, wife of John T. Nasta of Hershey, Pa., Lynne Gay Cooper, wife of William Cooper of Warminster, Pa., Nancy Gay Spiegel, wife of Omri Spiegel of Howell, N.J., Donald R. Gay, husband of Shannon Gay of Mechanicsburg, Pa., John K. Gay, husband of Tina Gay of Stratham, Ga., Donald A. Gay of King, N.C., WinstonSalem, N.C., Paul V. Gay, husband of Amy Gay of Bell City, La.; plus 14 greatgrandchildren, Daniel, David, Kevin Hunter, Hazel and Adam Nasta, Samantha and Katelynne Cooper, Natalie Phyllis Spiegel, Gabriel David Spiegel, Kathleen and Keira Gay, Kaitlyn Gay, and Gabrielle and Katherine Gay. She was a former active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. A homemaker for most of her life, she had been the Welcome Wagon hostess for Lebanon County from 1959 until 1962. Known for her hospitality, she was devoted to her grandchildren, enjoyed birding, knitting, designing and making Christmas stockings, and traveling. Funeral services in Lebanon arranged by Rohland Funeral Home. Services at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, with the Reverend Janet Sue Steger officiating. Calling hours from 12 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be at Northlawn Cemetery, Canton, Ohio. Arrangements by SpikerFoster-Shriver Funeral Home in Canton.
