She was formerly of 400 Cocoa Ave., Hershey. She is the wife of the late John H. Gepfer, who died December 19, 1972. She was born on January 7, 1917, in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, to John and Naomi Jones Layton. Gertrude retired after 50+ years from the Kisses department of the Hershey Chocolate Company. She was faithful in the United Church of Christ. She attended the Hershey High School. She enjoyed crocheting and was a fabulous cook. Surviving are her children, a son, John E. Gepfer and his wife Eleanor of Mt. Joy; daughters Shirley Stoner and her husband Charles of Hummelstown, and Sheila Fry and her husband Leon of Palmyra; 10 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-step- grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma D. Daniel; a brother, Charles Layton; a greatgranddaughter, Laura S. Krepps; and a great-greatstep- grandson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time for viewing on Monday, March 3, 2008, from 1-2 p.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ, Campbelltown, followed by a church funeral with burial in the Salem Reformed Cemetery. The Rev. Dwight Hein will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Frey Village, 1020 N. Union St., Middletown, PA 17057; or to The Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37213- 0800. Rothermel Funeral Home Inc. is entrusted with funeral services.
