Gesford Jr., 83, of Union Deposit, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008, in the Hershey Medical Center. Born in Grantville on July 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Meriet E., Sr. and Mary Chris Lingle Gesford. Meriet retired after 34 years as a truck mechanic from International Harvester where he had worked from January 1952 to July 1986; prior to this he had worked as an airplane mechanic at the former Olmsted Air Force Base and as a bus repairman for the former Hershey Coach Bus Company. Meriet served with the Army Air Force during World War II, where he was a mechanic and training instructor on B-17 & B29 Bombers. Meriet was proud to be one of the instructors on the Enola Gay. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, Hershey. Meriet was a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 410, Middletown. He was a Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Lebanon, and a member of American Legion Post 265, Hummelstown. Meriet was preceded in death by his wife, Celia A. Brajokovich Gesford, on February 5, 1998; a daughter, Vickie B. Cooper; a sister, Janet Gesford and a brother, William Gesford. He is survived by two sons, Michael A. Pankake of Harrisburg and Meriet E. "Junior" Gesford, III, at home; one daughter, Janet Bixler of Shamokin; two sisters, Jean Shade of Myerstown and JoAnn Hohenstein of Lancaster; two brothers, Earl Gesford of Sand Beach and Charles Gesford of Hershey; and 6 grandchildren. Prayer services will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11 AM in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Fr. Joshua R. Brommer, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Friends are invited to call for a viewing at the funeral home Tuesday, June 24, 2008, from 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of the service.
