Gingrich, 83, of Lebanon died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, in the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Arlene Snavely Gingrich, with whom he would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January. Born in Mt. Gretna on March 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Aaron K. and Violet L. Showers Gingrich. He worked in maintenance for Printed Terry, Lebanon, and in earlier years was a partner in Gingrich Construction Company, Lebanon. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, serving as a signalman aboard the USS Chikaskie A054, receiving the American Campaign Victory, the Asiatic Pacific with 4 stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medals. Jack was a member of Faith Tabernacle Congregation, Lebanon; Navy Club Ship 91; a member and treasurer of the Chikaskie Reunion Committee along with his best friend, Ken Dryburgh, where he attended 27 consecutive reunions; and the Friendship Fire Company. An avid Phillies fan, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Jack H. Gingrich II, of Lancaster; two daughters, Susann M., wife of Philip Bishop of Ephrata; and Cindy L., wife of Peter Progin of Lebanon; two sisters, Sarah, wife of William Ulrich of Lebanon, and Salome Purple of Fayetteville, N.Y.; five grandchildren Melissa, wife of Robert Zane of Columbia; Benjamin Bishop and wife Christina Gipperich of Pittsburgh; Michael and wife Kelley Progin of McGaheysville, VA; Timothy and wife Alicia Progin of Manheim; and David Progin of Pheonixville; four greatgrandchildren Sophia Zane, Lucy Progin, Andrew Progin and Caitlyn Progin. He was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Dexter and four brothers Aaron, Roger, Andy and Jere Gingrich. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM from the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 East Main Street, Annville. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with military honors. Viewing will be held on Thursday from 12:001:00 PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the US Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 123, Washington, D.C. 20004-2608.
