Gordon, 84, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2008. Born on July 26, 1924 in Quentin, he was the son of the late Earl and Emma (Kleinfelter) Gordon. As a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II, he was an infantryman in the 3rd Infantry Division, serving in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was severely wounded in battle near Anzio, Italy in February of 1944. He retired as a helicopter parts manager from Olmsted Air Force Base, and later from Lebanon County Civil Defense where he was a dispatcher of emergency service personnel throughout Lebanon County. William was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Earla S. (Horst) Gordon, and is survived by a son Thomas E. Gordon and his wife Carol, of Palmyra; and a daughter Ruth M. Peterson and her husband William, of Hummelstown; four grandsons Scott W. Peterson, Matthew T. Gordon, Shawn T. Peterson and Shane T. Gordon; and one great grandson Shane T. Peterson. Relatives & friends are invited to a time for viewing on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra from 6:008:00 PM. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 10:30 AM at the DiMatteo Worship Center of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Road, Palmyra with the hour prior for viewing. Chaplain Norman D. Yeater will officiate. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Greenwood Cemetery, N. Lebanon Twp., Lebanon County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., is entrusted with arrangements and services.
