Haldeman, 89, of the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Myerstown, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the home. He was the husband of the late Jean L. Stofflet Haldeman. Born in Northampton on July 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Herbert and Helen Smith Haldeman. He graduated from Northampton High School, Muhlenberg College and the Lancaster Theological Seminary. He was employed as a school teacher at Northampton School District for two years before being drafted into the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Branch during World War II. After his service in the military, he became a minister in the United Church of Christ, serving the Grindstone Hill charge, Marion, Pa.; the St. Mark's U.C.C. in Allentown; the Zion charge, Blain, Pa.; the Fredericksburg, Hamlin and the Mt. Zion charge; and the Strawberry Ridge/Dutch Hill charge, Danville, until he retired in 1983. After he retired, he served as interim pastors at the Bethel/Mt. Aetna charge and the Shamokin and Trevorton churches. He is survived by his daughters, Kay L. Reiss of Hamburg, Diane M., wife of Harold McMichael of Danville, Christine R., wife of George Heck of Myerstown, and Judith A. McMichael of Womelsdorf; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Mark; his daughter Pamala J., wife of Lewis Weaver of Allentown; and a sister, Irene Briggs. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's U.C.C- Hamlin. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Allen Union Cemetery, Northampton, at 3 p.m. on Monday. Arrangements are being handled by the StraussKreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Jonestown.
