Heil, 79, of Myerstown, Pa., formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, Pa. He was the husband of Cecilia Jajko Heil. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Clayton and Elizabeth Adams Heil. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, earning the rank of staff sergeant. Joe was a Philadelphia police officer, retiring as a captain after 40 years of service. He then went on to work as an inspector for the U.S. Marshals' Office, and became director of C.I.D. at Willow Grove AFB. Joe was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Lebanon; and the Philadelphia F.O.P.; and the VFW, Frederick W. Fuhrman Post No. 23, Lebanon. He enjoyed writing, especially poetry. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Karen Hiller (Chuck) of Philadelphia; three sons, Martin Heil (Beth) of Trinity, Fla., Thomas Heil (Jessica) of Newmanstown and Kenneth Heil (Karen) of Philadelphia; sisters Joanne Smith of Lansdale and Nancy Zuchin (George) of Pittsburgh. He was the loving grandfather of eight and greatgrandfather of four. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Joe's life celebration funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, 2 N. Eighth St., Lebanon, on Friday, November 28th, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Reid as celebrant. Viewing will be at church on Friday starting at 10 a.m. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly prefers contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
