Charles W. Hinkel, 85, of Jonestown died Saturday, May 17, 2008, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of the late Vivian Passaras Hinkel, who died in 1996. Born in Mahanoy Plain, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late Earl S. and Mary Bevan Hinkel. He was employed as a union carpenter for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers of America, Local 45, and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving are a son, Ronald C. and wife Sandra Hinkel of Lebanon; a sister, Anna Holtslander of Bristow, Va.; and two grandchildren, Rosemarie, wife of David McKeeby, and Kristin Hinkel. He and his wife also raised two nephews, Richard Passaras of New York and Lee Penkowski, who preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home, 618 E. Main St., Annville, with interment at the convenience of the family. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 6:30-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susquehanna Association for the Blind, 244 N. Queen Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
