(Dengler) After a long, spirited battle, Jeanette M. Hoffman (nee Dengler) succumbed to declining health conditions on May 17th, 2008. Beloved of her husband of 57 years, and her family, she passed into God's grace at her home in Cartmel. She was 77. Mrs. Hoffman was born Jeanette Marilyn Dengler in 1930 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1948, she worked for the Bell Telephone Company of Lebanon until her marriage to M. James Hoffman in 1950. The couple moved to Annville, Pennsylvania, in 1951, where the established their home and began raising a family. In 1962, they moved to Kennett Square to pursue a career opportunity for Jim. The family resided at their Greenwood Road address for 42 years, until Jeanette and Jim moved to Cartmel in 2004. Mrs. Hoffman was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, which she dearly loved. She was very active with the Alter Guild, Women's Bible Study, and expressed the love of Christ by identifying women in the community who were homebound, taking them with her on errands and trips as a way to engender companionship. As her children grew up and moved out, Mrs. Hoffman became an avid volunteer, for which she had a passion. She joyfully contributed her time to the Chester County Hospital Gift Shop, the Encore Thrift Shop (benefiting the Chester County Hospital), Tick Tock Gift Shop, and until the last few years, was the local coordinator for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed many other pursuits, including quilting (as a member of a quilting club), knitting, cooking, attending the theater and playing cards – a long time member of various bridge clubs. She had a "good mind for cards." She also loved to dance, especially with Jim, to the sounds of swing music. No pursuit or passion was more important than time with her family. Travel and vacations with the extended family was a favorite delight. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her four children, Karen Hoffman Tichenor, Nancy Hoffman Harding, Donald Hoffman and David Hoffman; two sons-in-law, Robert Tichenor and Robert Harding; five grandchildren, Jennifer Winand Flickinger (and Ryan), Matthew Harding, Stephanie Winand, Allison Harding Boris (and Bob) and David Harding; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Flickinger; her sister, Doris Dengler; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Rohland. Loving greatly and greatly loved, Jeanette will be missed. A funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 22nd, at 10 a.m. Private interment will be in the family plot in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Hoffman requests donations be made to the Neighborhood Health Agency, 400 E. Marshall St., First Floor, West Chester, PA 19380; or St. Michael's Lutheran Church Building Fund, PO Box 178, 109 E. Doe Run Road, Unionville, PA 19375.
