Hoffman, 69, of 337 N. 19th St., Lebanon, who had many friends and business associates, passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by his loving family and faithful dog Sam, Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at his home. He was husband of Sally A. Baim Hoffman with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on Sept. 6. He was born April 15, 1939, in Lebanon, a son of the late Alfred S. and Dorothy M. Shoop Hoffman. He was a 1957 graduate of Lebanon High School and worked at CleaverBrooks from 1959-1969. He went to the National Tax Training School, Nationwide Insurance Multi Line School, and operated the Lanny Hoffman Agency from 1962-1993 as a public accountant and insurance agent. He served in the US Army Reserves, 79th infantry Div., 1957- 1965. Later he was a Deputy Sheriff of Lebanon Co., after completing Deputy Sheriff's Training Academy. He served as Justice of the Peace, appointed by the State Governor and elected to 2 terms for 13 years and was a Commissioner for 15 years to West Lebanon Township. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge #226 F&AM; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree, Harrisburg; Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 27; Deputy Sheriff's Assoc. of PA; AARP; Lebanon Valley Society of Radio Amateurs; AARG Amateur Repeater Group; Skywarn Spotter for NOAA; American Radio Relay League and a Ham radio operator having received his FCC license in May 1955. He was also a member of the Lebanon Co. EMA RACES radio operator; Lebanon Co. Republican Committee person; Blue Mountain Muzzle Loading Rifle Assoc.; Washington Fire Co.; life member of Speedwell Fire Co. and Lebanon Co., Fireman Assoc.; and the Chemical and Rescue Fire Co. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Rick L., spouse of Donna Hoffman, Randy B., spouse of Lynn Hoffman, and Cathy Jo Hoffman significant other to Joe DeRose; grandchildren: Benjamin, Adam, Hannah, Olivia, Zoe, and Reed and beloved dogs Sam and Max. He was preceded in death by brother Rodney B. Hoffman. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held at 7 PM Monday, June 2, 2008, in Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon, preceded by a visitation at 6 PM.
