Hollowell, Jr., 80, of Cleona, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Mabel Gerhart Hollowell. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Nov. 1st. Born in Jamaica Queens Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Walter E. Sr. and Emma VonClef Hollowell. He attended Peter Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force. He along with his father and brother owned and operated the former Hollowell's Service Station in Ono for a number of years. He retired in 1993 from the Engineering Dept. of Met-Ed where he had 30 years of service. As an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Jonestown, he served as Sunday School teacher, Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Finance Committee; also serving on the Consistory and providing technical support for the church office. For many years he was active in the Cleona Boy Scout Troop 21. A 25 year member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, he had been Commander, Public Education officer teaching boater safety classes for many years, and also editor of the Flotilla monthly newsletter. He traveled with and edited the newsletter for the Bounder Motor Home Travel Club. He also enjoyed boating, photography, and traveling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Edward W. Hollowell (Diane) of Palm City, FL; a daughter Karen H. (Richard) Harner of Midland, MI. He has five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Hollowell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's UCC, Jonestown. Viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6:008:00 pm at the church and also prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Grand View Memorial Park, North Annville Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Relay for Life Team, or to St. John's UCC. at PO Box 688, Jonestown, PA 17038 Strauss-Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Jonestown is in charge of the arrangements.
