James R. Hostetler, 84, a former resident of Campbelltown, Pa., died at Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, Pa., on May 8, 2008. He was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Connellsville, Pa., son of the late Harry M. and Etta H. (Cramer) Hostetler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dollie V. Nedrow. He graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1961 with a B.S. degree in elementary education. Mr. Hostetler taught for the Elizabethtown Area School District for 19 years. He was a member of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, active in the Chancel and the Adult Handbell choirs. He also served as a deacon of the church. Mr. Hostetler was the secretary for the Campbelltown Water Company for many years. He married the former Pauline (Knepper) Hartsock in 1983, and prior to relocating to Messiah Village, he was a member of the Palmyra Brethren In Christ Church. Mr. Hostetler is survived by his wife, Pauline Hostetler; son Vaughn of Palmyra; daughters Diane Summers of Palmyra, Donna Denton of Parkville, Md.; stepchildren Denise Carr of Harrisonburg, Va., Romaine Hildebrand of Harrisburg, Fred Hartsock of Aldie, Va., Sharon Cosner of Louisa, Va.; five grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Rothermel Funeral Home, Palmyra. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Internment will be in the Grand View Memorial Park, Annville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Region, 4999 Louise Drive, Suite 104, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; or to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, 100 West Station Square Drive, Suite 500, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
