Klahr, 91, of Rehrersburg went home to be with the Lord on September 13th from his home in Rehrersburg. Born in Strausstown, son of the late Jacob and Katie Ann (Berger) Klahr. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Rehrersburg, where he sang in the choir for 50 years. He was a charter member of the Rehrersburg Lions Club; a member of the Keystone Fire Company, and the Bethel VFW. He was a World War II veteran, where he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an airplane mechanic in Hawaii and Brazil. He was stationed at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas, when President Roosevelt addressed the nation regarding the attack on Pearl Harbor. He recently was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame for faithfully voting in 50 or more elections, and for service as judge of elections. He was employed by the Tulpehocken School District as custodian for the Tulpehocken Elementary School for 20 years. Prior to that, he was a foreman at H.H. Brown Shoe Factory in Richland, and Stevens, Curtis Embry Shoe Factory in Reading. Prior to military service, he was foreman at H. Lieberwitz Shirt Factory in Strausstown. He was a 1936 graduate of Hamburg High School, where he was a member of the championship track team, including the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Keeney); a daughter, Sylvia Houser, wife of Ed Houser of Hummelstown; a son, Michael C. Klahr, husband of Cindy (Boltz) of Lebanon; four grandsons, Steve Houser, husband of Kimberly (Klein) of Lancaster, Chris and Tim Klahr of Lebanon, Ben Klahr, husband of Ashlea (Weaver) of Lansing, Mich.; one granddaughter, Renee Houser of Hummelstown; and one great-granddaughter, Marlo Houser of Lancaster. He is predeceased by sister Laura (Klahr) McQuate. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Trinity U.C.C., 27 Maria St., Box 111, Rehrersburg, PA 19550. Interment at Trinity U.C.C. Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Hill Funeral Home, Rehrersburg, is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity U.C.C. at the above address.
