Miller shabodeho@aol.com June 12, 2008, 5:39 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 6/4/2008 Kuhn, Ralph Ellsworth Ralph Ellsworth Kuhn, age 95, died Monday, June 2, 2008, in the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. He was born, raised and married in Waynesboro, Pa. He and his family moved to Hershey in 1954, before retiring to the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home in 1990. His wife of 63 years, Frances P. (Good) Kuhn, preceded him in death on March 25, 2005. He was born on August 8, 1912, in Waynesboro to Albert C. and Sarah Copenhaver Kuhn. During his working years, he was employed at Kreps Printing Company and Frick Company in Waynesboro before accepting a civil service position as county supervisor of Franklin & Fulton counties for the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation. He moved to the Hershey area to fulfill the position of county supervisor for the Dauphin and Perry counties, where he later became district administrator, and finally supervisor for the state of Pennsylvania, until his retirement in December 1973. He and his wife, Frances, were faithful members of the Waynesboro & Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon for 43 years, a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, one of the building fund treasurers, church clerk, as well as a member and chairman on many other committees. They often opened their home to many church families in need. For many years, Ralph was a volunteer in the gift shop of the M.S. Hershey Medical Center and Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed woodworking, and was a member of AARP. Surviving him are his four children, Wanda Huh of Baton Rouge, La., Dwight Kuhn of Dexter, Maine, Byron Kuhn of Panama City, Fla., and Phyllis Karli of Campbelltown, Pa.; two brothers, Charles L. and Harry E. Kuhn; and two sisters, Gladys Mentzer and Alma Frantz. Two sisters, Mildred Kuhn and Margie Herr, preceded him in death. In addition, he had 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of viewing on Friday, June 6, 2008, from 10-11 a.m. at the chapel of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. His funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, 335 E. Areba Ave., Hershey, with viewing from 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed by his funeral service at 2:30. Burial will be in the Spring Creek Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in memory of Ralph's granddaughter, Melanie Huh Smailus. Rothermel Funeral Home Inc. is entrusted with funeral arrangements.
