Second St., Lebanon, died Monday, February 4, 2008, in his home. He was born May 31, 1926, in Lebanon, a son of the late Daniel B. and Annie M. Hower Lehman. He was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ and a veteran of World War II, having served in the cavalry. He graduated from Lebanon High School and was a mechanic for Dick Hetrick's Garage. He started firefighting when young and served with the Friendship as assistant chief in 1962, in 1969 as president, and a director in 1970. In 1972 he was made a life member. In 1973 he was elected chief and he continued to serve this position until 1993, and he served on all truck committees for refurbishment of apparatus and purchasing of a new engine. He served three terms as chief 48 for South Lebanon Township. He carried membership in Lebanon County Fire Chiefs Association, Pennsylvania Firemen's Association, Bethel, Frystown, Chemical and Union Lebanon fire companies, and also served on the Lebanon County Fire School Committee. Surviving are his wife of 60 years (June 2007), Doris L. Berkheiser Lehman of Lebanon; daughter Debra, spouse of Gregory Arnold of Lebanon; grandchildren Scott, spouse of Heidi Karli, Shaun, spouse of Amanda Karli, Daniel Lehman, and Rebecca Arnold; greatgrandchildren Meghan Bashore, Avery Karli, and Matthew Karli; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death son Larry D. Lehman on July 7, 1999; siblings Harry Lehman Sr., Robert Lehman, Alice Klahr, Luella Saylor, Anna Klohr, and Pearl Lehman. Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, February 7, 2008, from 12:30-2 p.m. at Christman's Funeral Home Inc., 226 Cumberland Street, Lebanon, followed by services at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Kimmerlings Cemetery.
