Miller shabodeho@aol.com December 19, 2008, 6:17 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 12/5/2008 Long, Thelma Sipling Thelma Sipling Long Thelma Sipling Long passed away at ManorCare Health Services, Elizabethtown, on December 2, 2008. Born in Conoy Township August 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Bishop Daniel M. and Estella K. Smith Sipling. She married Kenneth Luke Long, April 19, 1952, with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage. Thelma served God by serving her husband, children and grandchildren. She ministered to many as Sunday school teacher, VBS director and served in many children, youth and adult ministries. She shared her love of music by participating in many church singing groups. Her gifts of hospitality and service were used to serve others at their point of need, and as an expression of her love for Jesus Christ and others. She was a longtime member of the United Zion Church and, most recently, attended the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania after 35 years of service. During her tenure with the commonwealth, she was a personnel director and personnel analyst for the Department of Health. Thelma is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a son, Kenneth E., husband of Renee S. Long of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Jean L., wife of Dean M. Messick of Hershey; six grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha and Jared Long of Elizabethtown, Carrie, Kimberly and Douglas Messick of Hershey; and a brother, Robert, husband of Dorothy Sipling of Rheems. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Sipling; and two sisters, Almeda Sipling and Marie Gish. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, from the Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, 996 East High Street, Elizabethtown, at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and on Tuesday from 1 until the time of service. Interment will take place in East Donegal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Compassion Fund of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, 996 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
