Miller shabodeho@aol.com October 2, 2008, 2:57 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 9/20/2008 Lutz, Sara Eva Auman Sara Eva Auman Lutz, 100, of Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, PA, formerly of Tunnel Hill Road, Lebanon, and Providence Place, Pottsville, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, September 19, 2008, at Schuylkill Medical Center East (Good Samaritan), Pottsville, PA. Born in Palmyra, PA, March 3, 1908, Sara was the daughter of the late William F. and Anna Fox Auman and was reared by her grandparents, the late William F. and Sarah Rhoad Auman. She was the widow of Ralph S. Lutz, who had been a faculty member of Porter-Tower Jr.-Sr. High School and Lebanon High School. They met at Hershey Park, married on Christmas Day, 1933, at Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra, by Dr. Stanley Billheimer, and were blessed to celebrate their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. Sara and Ralph enjoyed life as "snow-birds" for many years traveling to Florida in the winters. They also enjoyed their many trips throughout the U.S., a cruise to Alaska and tour of Germany. All marveled at Sara's vivid recall of route numbers and directions even to the present. Sara graduated from Palmyra High School in 1927. She attended Lebanon Valley College, majoring in languages and completed additional studies at Penn State University. She retired from the Lebanon Hardware Company and was formerly employed by Hershey Park, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Krause Hardware, Lebanon, PA. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, PA, a member of the Women of Salem and the Martha Circle. During her many years of faithful service to the Lord, Sara taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and other Christian Education Programs. She was a member of the choirs at Palm Lutheran Church, Palmyra, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Reinerton, PA, and Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, and was a featured soprano soloist at Palm Lutheran and St. Peter's. Sara studied voice under the tutelage of the late and wellknown Myrl Turby. In addition to singing in the church choirs, she graced many family gatherings by singing the blessing, "May the Lord, gracious Lord, bless and keep you forever." She planned the program for her 100th birthday party and chose to sing her favorite hymn, "My God and I walk through the fields together, walking and talking as good friends should and do<$>.." Sara celebrated her 100th Birthday with a family party on March 1, 2008, and a resident and staff party on March 3. She greatly enjoyed the many greeting cards received in recognition of her century of life. Sara was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Tremont Chapter #294, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the former Tolerance Chapter #502 Order of the Eastern Star, Lebanon, PA, and currently a member of Lebanon Chapter #115 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Tiberias Order #21 White Shrine, Reading, PA, and the Schuylkill County Association of Past Worthy Matrons. She is survived by her son, Dr. Ralph H. Lutz and his wife, Dr. Barbara Y. Lutz, Pottsville, her daughters Carol Houtz, Muir, widow of Neil Houtz, who passed September 16, and Marilyn Zweier and her husband Thomas Zweier, Lebanon; Grandchildren: Patricia Schwalm and husband, Ben, Karen Lutz- Lento and husband Richard, Theresa Reynolds and husband Eric, Cathy Haley widow of Michael Haley, David Houtz and wife Colleen, Carolyn Houtz, Marilyn Mullen and husband Rick, Kevin Zweier and wife Susan, eleven greatgrandchildren and one great-great grandchild, a niece Joyce Frey and husband Gary, York, PA. She is also survived by step-brothers Warren Auman, Myerstown, Eden Auman, Virginia Beach, VA., step-sisters Edith Sholly and Mildred Hostetter, Lebanon and their families. In addition to her husband Ralph S. who predeceased her on March 25, 1995, she was predeceased by a grandson Scott Zweier, her sister, Kathryn Auman Maulfair, and stepbrothers William F. Auman, Sr., Gideon Auman and Carl Auman, stepsisters Almeda Beard and Virginia Ross. Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Roger Bucy of Salem Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 22 at the Christman Funeral Home, 226 Cumberland St., Lebanon, PA. Viewing and family visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Memorial services will be conducted prior to the religious service by the Eastern Star and White Shrine. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park, North Annville Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 8th and Willow Streets, Lebanon, PA 17042.
