Mays, 76, of Myerstown, Pa., died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at his residence. He was the husband of Betty M. (Achey) Mays, to whom he was married 58 years on August 12. Born in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County, Pa., on March 5, 1932, he was the son of the late Allen W. Mays Sr. and Mary E. (Deck) Mays. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He had 45 years of service in the telephone industry, having last worked for Contel, Hershey, Pa., retiring in 1992. He also worked part time as a security guard at Penn National, and worked at Wilhelm's Hardware, Myerstown, for many years. He worshipped in the Protestant faith, and was a life member of Myerstown VFW and Richland American Legion. He was also a member of the Mt. Zion Fire Co., Williamson Masonic Lodge F & AM No. 307, Womelsdorf, and enjoyed raising and working with horses. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Sandra Gettel of Schaefferstown and Susan Downs of Richland; son Bruce, husband of Patti Mays of Myerstown; seven grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; sisters Kathryn, wife of Sterling Weidman of Myerstown, Edna Hill of Myerstown, Arlene, wife of Ernest Gensemer of Lebanon, Grace Troutman of Myerstown and Blanche Moyer of Richland; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Mays; and brother Allen W. Mays Jr. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, Pa. Viewing Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Myerstown, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
