Miller shabodeho@aol.com July 3, 2008, 9:16 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 6/22/2008 McMindes, Roy James Roy James McMindes, 84, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away Monday, June 16th, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was the husband of Prudence A. McMindes, with whom he celebrated his 62nd wedding anniversary on June 8th, 2008. He was born in Baltimore, Md., where he attended high school and the University of Maryland. He was president of Sheridan Corporation of Lebanon, Pa. He also owned and operated Sheridan Slag Corporation, Grey's Ferry Brick Corporation, and Waylite Corporation, as well as being involved in land development. He was chairman of the Board of Peoples National Bank in Lebanon. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Lebanon, Pa. He was a naval carrier pilot, serving in the Pacific theater in World War II, as well as in the Naval Reserve after the war. He flew his own plane for business and pleasure for most of his life. He was an avid golfer, boater and fisherman. With his wife, he traveled around the world. He had been a longtime member of the Lebanon Country Club, and a member of Jonathan's Landing Country Club in Jupiter, Fla. In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by daughters Gail K. McMindes of Greensboro, Vt., Joan S. McMindes of Jupiter, Fla.; and son James L. McMindes of Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lee P. McMindes. During his career, he served on a number of boards of community organizations, including Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA. He was the recipient of the Lebanon Valley College Founders Day Award in 1987. Services will be handled by Aycock Funeral Home, 1112 Military Trail, Jupiter, Fla. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. Interment will be Monday, June 23rd, 10 a.m. at the South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla.
