  Edward W. Ness Edward W. Ness, age 78, of Hemlock Lane, Pine Grove, passed away 
  on July 23, 2008, in Pine Grove Township, Pine Grove. Born on November 27, 
  1929, in Susquehanna, he was the son of the late Ernest H. and Nellie P. 
  Hankins Ness. He graduated from Susquehanna High School, and then attended 
  Kutztown State Teachers College, majoring in engineering. Edward started Ness 
  Automotive, including a BSA Motorcycle Dealership, where the HM Felty Trucking 
  Co. is today. He also started the distributorship of various Amaco gas stations 
  in Schuylkill County. When the distributorship was discontinued, he bought out 
  the gas station in Pine Grove and started Ness Oil. In 1954, he entered the 
  U.S. Army, where he served until 1956. Cars and motorcycles were his hobbies. 
  Edward was a Pine Grove Borough councilman, and past vice president of the 
  Borough Council. He also served as chairman of the borough's purchasing and 
  disposal committee, as well as the real estate, sewer, streets and public 
  safety and permit review committees. Preceding him in death were his wife of 54 
  years, Rosanna E. Neal Ness, on March 9, 2005; a son, Edward Neal Ness; a 
  daughter, Deborah Ann Howell; and brother Ernest Raymond Ness. Surviving are a 
  brother, James R. and wife Frieda Ness of Brooksville, Florida; a grandson, 
  Keeton Edward Howell; and sonin-law James G. Howell, both of Pine Grove; three 
  godchildren; his nephew, James E. Ness of Pine Grove; and two nieces, Lori A. 
  Dennison and Linda L. Barry, both of Brooksville, Florida. Interment will be 
  held at the convenience of the family in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine 
  Grove.  The H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of 
  arrangements.
