Newswanger, 90, of Manheim passed away peacefully at the Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, Manheim, on Wednesday, February 6, 2008. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Erisman Newswanger, who died in 1989, and the late Retha A. Gish Wolf Newswanger, who died in 2003. Carl retired from the former National Standard Corp. of Mount Joy, where he was a maintenance electrician for 18 years. After his retirement, he was a selfemployed master carpenter and woodworker. He took pride knowing that one of his clocks he made is on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. He was a member of Grace Chapel in Deodate, and Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church of Mount Joy. He also belonged to the Elizabethtown Historical Society, and Hershey Road Runners. Born in Pequea Township on April 5, 1917, he was the son of the late David M. and Mary M. Seifried Newswanger. Two children survive him; Sandra, married to Thomas Hadley of Elizabethtown, and Ronald Newswanger of Manheim. He will be sadly missed by his six grandchildren, and especially by his granddaughters, Stephanie, married to Anthony Moyer of Elizabethtown, and Leanne Eckenrode of Lancaster; and 11 greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are five stepchildren from his marriage with Retha; 18 stepgrandchildren; and 28 stepgreat-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. A memorial service honoring Carl's life will be held at Grace Chapel, 2535 Colebrook Road, Elizabethtown, on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Melvin Weaver and the Reverend Jerry Berrier officiating. Interment will be private in Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17603-2393; or to Grace Chapel, 2535 Colebrook Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
