Oberly, 79, of Womelsdorf, Pa., died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at the VA Medical Center Hospice, Lebanon, Pa. He was the husband of Lois "Dolly" J. (Miller) Oberly, to whom he was married 53 years on April 9. Born in Womelsdorf, Pa., on August 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Maude (Rhine) Oberly. He attended Womelsdorf High School and Reading High School of Welding. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a full fashion knitter for 12 years at Nolde & Horst, Womelsdorf, and Ephrata Knitting Mill. He had been an X-ray welder at Quaker Alloy, Myerstown, for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He also served as a substitute custodian for the Conrad Weiser School District, and a crossing guard for Womelsdorf Borough for 17 years, last working October 5, 2007. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Womelsdorf, Pa., and was a life member of the Womelsdorf VFW, Womelsdorf Rod & Gun Club, Marion Rod & Gun Club, Womelsdorf Fire Co., where he had been a volunteer firefighter for 35 years. He was also a member of the Marion Senior Citizens. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Mitchell S., husband of Christi Oberly of Millcreek Township, Pa.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria, wife of George Riter of San Antonio, Texas.; two nieces. Graveside service will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, at 12:30 p.m.. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. A procession will form at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W.
