Pavone Jr., age 74, of Annville died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 28, surrounded by loving family and friends, following a 15-month battle with cancer. Born June 1, 1934, in Hershey, he was the son of Mary E. (Catherine) Pavone of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, and the late Joseph C. Pavone Sr. Joe was a graduate of Hershey High School Class of 1952. During his teens and early twenties, he helped his father run the Sinclair Service Station on Chocolate Avenue in Palmdale. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 as a military policeman. One year of that service was in Germany. Joe retired after 30 years of civil service from Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, and later as a foreman for the 79th United States Army Reserve Command. He was an avid hunter, and was a member of the Dixon Run Hunting Camp in Clearfield County. Joe also enjoyed fishing, loved snowmobiling and entertaining his many friends and family. He was of the Catholic faith. In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria (Snyder) Pavone; one daughter, Michele Pavone of Harrisburg; a sister, Diana Lynch, wife of Harold Lynch of Hershey; an aunt, Julia Pavone of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home; an uncle, John Catherine and his wife Jean of Absecon, N.J. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of dear friends and neighbors. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th, in the DiMatteo Worship Center at the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, 1200 Grubb Street, Palmyra. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the GSH Hospice, 206 Hathaway Park, Lebanon, PA 17042; or the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 North Chestnut Street, Palmyra, PA 17078.
