Pond Jr., 85, went to be with Our Lord on Friday, April 11, 2008, in the ECC Retirement Village, Stoneridge Campus, Myerstown. He was born June 28, 1922, a son of the late James E. Pond Sr. and the late Mabel Wunderlick Pond. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Missouri. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he became a minister of Faith. He was a member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church, Lebanon, and served as pastor to several area churches. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Frances T. Weddle Pond; sons James E. Pond III and wife Connie Pond of Bedford, Ind., Edward K. Pond of Heltonville, Ind.; a daughter, Frances Mae, wife of Howard Perkey of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 28 greatgrandchildren; sisters Mary Wheeler of Minnesota, Mabel Gardner of Manheim. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Waldick. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the First Evangelical Congregational Church, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Lebanon. Interment will be made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m., both at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 100 E. Brown St., Suite 23, Middletown, PA 17057; or his church.
