Thelma A. Risser, 72, of Brethren Village, formerly of New Holland, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at home following a life devoted to loving her family and serving others. She was the wife of Carl H. Risser, with whom she celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on September 15, 2008. She was born on June 30, 1936, in Upper Leacock Township, daughter of the late Norman and Lulu Myer Reed. She was a nurse, having worked for Armstrong World Industries, Dr. David M. Dunfee, Dr. Harold Finkel, New Holland Family Practice, and the Long Home, before her retirement. She was a graduate of Upper Leacock High School, Class of 1954, and Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She was a very active member of Conestoga Church of the Brethren, and she especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her husband, two daughters, Bonnie S. Furman of Leola and Debra L., wife of Wayne L. Anderson of Jonestown; five grandchildren, Terry Fry, Heidi Furman, Danielle, David and Jonathan Anderson; one sister, Marilyn J., wife of Joseph L. Heller of New Holland. She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry M. Reed. The celebration of life service will be held at Conestoga Church of the Brethren, 141 East Main Street, Leola, on Monday, September 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Alan Miller and Pastor Kathy Miller officiating. Interment in Bareville Cemetery. Friends may call for a visitation at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to Brethren Village Endowment Fund, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606, attn: Development Department; or Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
