  Root, Janet Lenore Monk   
   
  Janet Lenore Monk Root, 68, a resident of Hilltop Home for Adults, 
  Independence, Va., died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Twin County Regional 
  Hospital, Galax, Va. She was born April 13, 1940, in Union Township, Knox 
  County, Ohio, to Merril Monk and Mary Morey Monk Spuhler. Survivors include her 
  children, Jeffrey W. Shuman and Paul W. Shuman, both of Black Mountain, N.C., 
  Stephen Haulenbach of Sunbury, Pa., Barbara Mack of Ono, Pa., Melody Bricker of 
  Palmyra, Pa., and Ken Meyer of Lebanon, Pa.; her mother, Mary Monk Spuhler of 
  Lebanon, Pa.; two sisters, Sheila Moyer of Jonestown, Pa., Barbara Hayden of 
  Apache, Okla.; and one brother, John Monk Sr. of Lebanon, Pa. There are six 
  grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Merril E. Monk, and 
  sister M. Christine Monk Harris. A memorial service was held at Mountain View 
  Baptist Church, Independence, Va., on Jan. 4, 2009, with the Rev. David Osborne 
  officiating.
