Charles H. Runkel, 83, of Annville died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, peacefully at home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, one of America's greatest generation, who received a Purple Heart for Bravery. He was the husband of Betty Charles Runkel. Born in Lebanon on October 5, 1924, the son of the late George and Hilda Bell Runkel of Lebanon. He was employed for 44 years at Hershey Foods Corporation. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Lebanon, and the Jonestown American Legion. In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his daughter, Jan, of Florida; a brother, Melvin and wife Kathleen Runkel of Lebanon; and his nephew, Mike and wife Beth and son Ryan; his niece Jody and husband Barry and daughter Kaylea; and his nephew, Scott. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Kreamer Funeral Home, 618 E. Main St., Annville. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Weaber Family Hospice, 22 Hathaway Park, Lebanon, PA 17042.
