Miller SHABODEHO@aol.com April 21, 2008, 9:36 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 3/11/2008 Sando, Matilda Bonanni Matilda Bonanni Sando LEBANON Matilda Bonanni Sando, of 1129 Sun Drive, Lebanon, and formerly of Myerstown, died March 7, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Hospital. She was the wife of George G. Sando, with whom she had celebrated 56 years of marriage on August 4, 2007. Born in West Myerstown, she was the daughter of the late Norberto and Grazia Cimini Bonanni. She was a graduate of Myerstown High School and Lebanon Valley College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education. For 12 years, she served as organist at her church, Mary Gate of Heaven, Myerstown, Pa., and also served as historian for the church by writing the 50th and 75th histories. She also taught religious classes for 10 years. In other related church activities, she served as president of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, deanery vice president and diocesan committee member, and served as a volunteer worker on the Noon Meal Program for a 10year period. A talented lyric soprano, she sang professionally on the radio WKBOHarrisburg, Pa., and WORK-York, Pa. In addition, she was a vocalist with the Myerstown Acme Band, Louis De Nunzio's Orchestra, and the Art Zellers Band. During the Myerstown Bicentennial Celebration, she served as chairman of the (13) antique window displays and chairman of the Isaac Meier House Open House with borrowed antique furnishings. In 1972, she was appointed by Gov. Milton Shapp as a trustee of Wernersville State Hospital, and served in that capacity for seven years on various committees. She was a member of the Women's Club of Lebanon and Historical Preservation Trust; a former member of the Lebanon Country Flower Club, and a former member of the Harmonia Music Club. Politically, she served as vice president of the former Young Democrats and served as chairman of the Myerstown (KennedyJohnson) campaign. Later in her life, she also became interested in art and studied with the late Floyd Hackman of Lititz, Pa. She had several one-man shows. Her hobbies were collecting antique objects, traveling, and attending concerts. In addition to her husband, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is the last of her immediate family. Preceding her in death were a sister, Mary Volpe; and brothers, James and Amelio Bonanni. Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 10 a.m. from Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 W. McKinley Ave., Myerstown, PA 17067. Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing hours Thursday evening 6-8, with recitation of the rosary at 7, and Friday morning 99:30 at Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 126 S. Ninth St., Lebanon.
