Miller shabodeho@aol.com January 10, 2009, 10:15 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 12/24/2008 Scipioni, Luke Luke Scipioni passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center after a nine month courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Luke was born in Lebanon on June 4, 1937, to Miriam G. and Luke A. Scipioni. Luke is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Marijane Smith; son Luke Todd Scipioni, husband of Jennifer S.; four grandchildren, Luke Tyler, Joshua D., Hanna H., Maximus T.; siblings Tonita Stoll, Barbara Foltin, William Scipioni and Nicholas Scipioni; uncle Louis Scipioni and wife Ruth; aunts Minnie Anspach and Gloria Ebling; along with nieces and nephews. Luke was a graduate of Millersville University Class of 1960 and Tomplo University Class of 1965. He was employed by CornwallLebanon School District for 37 years as a biology and anatomy teacher. He also coached Cedar Crest basketball for 23 years. Luke was Pep Club advisor for 20 years, Science Department chairman, helped to establish Cedar Crest Booster Club, previously served on the Falcon Foundation Board. He was a member of Mary Gate of Heaven Church, where he served as a lector. He was a life member of the Lebanon County Educational Honor Society. After his school retirement, he was employed by South Lebanon Township as park director for five years. Luke enjoyed reading, attending Cedar Crest and Lebanon Valley basketball games, his grandchildren sports activities, Hershey and New York theater productions. He was an ardent Duke and Phillies fan. Luke enjoyed traveling to Hilton Head, S.C., and Ocean City, Md., cruising to various Caribbean ports, participating in the Y at the VA Cardiac Exercise Group. Luke touched the lives of many, as he was a very special person. Please omit flowers. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from Mary Gate of Heaven Church, 188 W. McKinley Ave., Myerstown. Interment will be in in Iona Cemetery, South Lebanon Township. Friends may call on Monday from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Contributions in Luke's memory may be made to establish a Luke Scipioni Memorial Scholarship Fund at Cedar Crest High School. Address is 115 E.
