Balmer Thelma R. Balmer Shaffer, 81, formerly of Manheim died peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster. Born in Rapho Township, she was the daughter of the late Ernest "Ernie" and Lulu Boyd Weaver. Thelma worked as an administrative assistant for Elizabethtown College, and later for the Farm Credit Bureau in Lebanon County. She was the wife of the late Morris H. Shaffer, who died in 2001. Her first husband, the late J. Harold Balmer, died in 1981. She was a member of the East Fairview Church Of The Brethren Manheim. Thelma was a 1944 graduate of Manheim High School. Her interests included, knitting, crocheting, quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, canning, traveling, and family gatherings. Surviving are two daughters and two sons, Barbara A., wife of Paul G. Smith of Mount Joy, Judith C., wife of Richard A. Hiester of Lebanon, Richard H., husband of Sarah McKalips Balmer, and Steven R., husband of Kathy Doster Balmer, all of Manheim. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Eric P. Smith, Jody L. SmithMonahas, Curt L. Smith, Christopher S. Rankin, Bradley Hiester, Rochelle Hiester King, Johnathan C. Balmer, Douglas G. Balmer, Katelynn L. Balmer, Amy E. Balmer, Megan L. Balmer, Michael S. Balmer; seven greatgrandchildren. Further, she is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Robert Weaver of Charlotte, N.C., Donald, husband of Fran Weaver of Manheim, Geraldine, wife of Quentin Buckwalter, and Nancy, wife of Gerald Fellenbaum, all of Manheim. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Weaver Jr., Wilbur "Whip" Weaver, and Eugene "Jim" Weaver. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service from the East Fairview Church Of The Brethren, 1187 Fairview Road Manheim, on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jimm A. Roland and Pastor Dana E. Statler officiating. Interment will be held in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with additional viewing on Thursday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
