Miller shabodeho@aol.com November 26, 2008, 1:00 am Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 11/6/2008 Shenk, Cassel Joseph Cassel Joseph Shenk, 95, formerly of Palmyra, a resident of the Masonic Village since 2002, died of complications following hip surgery on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. He was the widower of Dorothy Emma Sell Shenk, who died August 29, 1981. He was born in Lemoyne on October 2, 1913, to Joseph Walter and Harriet Cassel Shenk. He retired as a construction superintendent for the state of Pennsylvania. He was a 1931 graduate of Hershey High School, served proudly in the U.S. Navy Seabee's unit during World War II, and was a past commander of the Palmyra American Legion. He was a member of the Palm Lutheran Church, where he served as chairman of the building committee for the present church. He was a member of the Brownstone Lodge No. 666 F & A M, Hershey, the Harrisburg Consistory, and was a past president of the Lebanon County Shrine Club. Surviving are his daughter, Lynette J., wife of Dr. Ted Thompson of St. Paul, Minn.; a granddaughter, Beth, wife of Demarick Patton of Orlando, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Raquel and Caydence Patton; and a brother, John Shenk of Delaware. He is preceded in death by a brother, Walter; sisters Beulah and Harriet; and a greatgranddaughter, Ashlyn Jenna Patton. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of viewing on Friday, November 7, 2008, from 1-2 at the Palm Lutheran Church, 11 W. Cherry St., Palmyra, followed by his funeral with the Rev. Dr. John Merkel officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to his church, or to the Minnesota Medical Foundation, the Ashlyn Jenna Patton/Thompson Fund # 1055, 200 Oak St., SE, Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55455.
