Shollenberger PINE GROVE Earl Warren Shollenberger, age 82, of Elwood Drive, Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, in the Pottsville Hospital. Born on August 27, 1926, in Pine Grove, he was the son of the late Warren Reuben Shollenberger and Ivy Mack Shollenberger Molleson. He was a retired master sergeant, having served in the military for 20 years. He first served in the Merchant Marines from 1943-1945 in World War II. He was then drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and remained in the service until 1971. He served a tour in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. He was a member of the Army Security Agency as a cryptographer, and was also a ham radio operator. Before entering the military, he worked as a looper in a steel mill in Buffalo, N.Y., and later was a program specialist for the Department of Labor and Industry. He loved to travel. He was fluent in German, and had many friends over in Germany. He was profoundly interested in NASA, was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, and had a love of history. He had a great interest in poetry, and had at least 35 of his poems published. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Pine Grove American Legion Post 374, and the Pine Grove VFW Post 3432, where he was a former commander. He was also a member of the Pine Grove Historical Society. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Shollenberger, and his girlfriend, Alice Sherrill from Oak Harbor, Ohio. Surviving are a son, Peter Shollenberger and his wife Niki of Racine, Wisconsin; two daughters, Denise, wife of Jack Stephens of Lakeside, California, and Dixie Leigh Cerutti; seven grandchildren, Jackie Shollenberger Stephens and wife Valerie, Megan Shollenberger, wife of Brandon Richards, Nicholas Raudensky, Jason Ensel, and Steve, Jessica and Andrea Cerutti; three greatgrandchildren, Joshua and Adrian Shollenberger Stephens, and Collin Shollenberger Richards; and a sister, Winifred and husband Wendal Rehm of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two nephews, Darren and Brian; and an adopted friend, Dennis Kanter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with Steve Lesh officiating. The viewing will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Wood Street, Pine Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Pine Grove Historical Society, P.O. Box 65, 205 N. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963, in his memory.
