Smith, 83, formerly of 850 Palmyra-Bellegrove, Annville, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in the E.C.C. Retirement Village, Myerstown. He was the husband of the late Eva R. Smith Smith, who died in 2006. Born in Berks County on May 6, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ella Kantor Smith. He was a self-employed blacksmith, and also worked in that capacity for Millard's Quarry and Bethlehem Mines, Annville. In his later years, he served as an Evangelical pastor for congregations in Dayton, Muir, and Pottstown, and also as the pastor of visitation for St. John's Evangelical Congregational Church, Steelstown. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a graduate of Womelsdorf High School, a member of St. John's E.C. Church, Steelstown, and a lifetime member of the Bellegrove Fire Company. Surviving are two sons, Richard A., husband of Donna Smith of Hampton, Va., and Harold R., husband of Debra Smith of Lebanon; three daughters, Romaine, wife of Carroll Martin of Annville, Sandra Pugsley of Boston, Mass., and Kathleen Smith of Palmyra; seven granddaughters; and eight greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Smith; and two sisters, Eva Beamesderfer and Margaret Hertzog. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from St. John's E.C. Church, 683 Steelstown Road, Annville, PA 17003. Interment with military honors in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday evening from 79 p.m. at the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main St., Annville, and also from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's E.C. Church in his memory.
