Thomas Spancake, 87, of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at the home. Born February 11, 1921, in McClure, Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Myrtle J.B. (Fisher) Krick. Retiring from The Hershey Company, bean hulling department, she was very active in the Palmyra American Legion Post No. 72 and the Palmyra Ambulance Corp. She was a sergeant in the Women's Army Corps during World War II, was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Palmyra, and Chocolate Workers Union Local 464, an honorary member of the 1st Infantry Division, and a life member of the Mount Zion Fire Company. She was the widow of Corporal Thaddeus J. Thomas, who was killed in Africa January 1943. Surviving are two children, Dr. Michael W., husband of Pamela Spancake of West Chester, and Dawn S., wife of Donald Colon of Palmyra; grandchildren Derek Colon, Dana Spancake, Christopher Spancake and Brad Spancake; and three great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008, at Buse Funeral Home, 145 North Grant Street, Palmyra, preceded by a viewing from 11 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
