Miller shabodeho@aol.com April 29, 2008, 11:11 pm Published in the Lebanon Daily News on 4/25/2008 Stichter, Bertha Yoder Bertha Yoder Stichter Bertha Yoder Stichter, 100, of West Pierce Street, Carlsbad, N.M., passed away April 21, 2008, at Lakeview Christian Home. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2008, 9 a.m. at Lakeview Chapel with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating. Funeral services to be held at Olive Mennonite Church in Wakarusa, Indiana, on Monday, April 28, 2008, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Olive Cemetery West, Wakarusa, Indiana. Denton- Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bertha Yoder Stichter was born June 1, 1907, in Nappanee, Indiana, to Moses and Amanda (Hartman) Yoder. She grew up in Wakarusa, Indiana, and graduated from high school. Bertha went to work as a typesetter for the newspaper. She married "the man next door," Fred Stichter, in 1938 and started their family. Bertha was a homemaker and mother. All of her life she was active in supporting mission work and sewed hundreds of babylayettes and quilts for missions and other projects. Following her husband's retirement, together they went on disaster relief trips with Mennonite Disaster Services. They moved to Carlsbad in 1984. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, in 1998; infant son Henry Lee in 1942; step-daughter Esther Stichter in 1958; son-in-law Lee Eash in 2005; brothers Ray Yoder, Lloyd Yoder, Melvin Yoder and Elmer Yoder. Survivors are daughter Eileen Eash of Carlsbad, N.M.; son Dennis Stichter and wife Connie of Lebanon, Pa.; five grandchildren, Joanna (Eash) Harrison and husband Duane of Lafayette, Colo., John Kenton Eash of Arlington, Mass., Will Stichter and wife Lauren of Philadelphia, Pa., Mike Stichter of Cockeysville, Md., Kris Stichter of Rochester, N.Y.; two greatgrandchildren, Isabella Harrison and Parker Harrison; brother Victor Yoder and wife Lavonne of Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loving friends and unknown people who were an important part of her life. Pallbearers are Joanna Harrison, Duane Harrison, John Kenton Eash, Will Stichter, Mike Stichter, Kris Stichter.
