Strohman SEVERNA PARK, MD Harold Arthur Strohman, 91, of Severna Park, Md., died of congestive heart failure January 22, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Strohman was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Lebanon, Pa., to Arthur Harry Strohman and Carrie B. Long Strohman. He attended Harding Junior High School, graduated from Lebanon High School in 1933; graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa., in 1935; and graduated from Lehigh University in Bethleham, Pa., in 1939 with a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. Member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Lehigh and PiTau Signa Fraternity, an honorary mechanical engineer society. He was employed at Babcock & Wilcox, a steam boiler manufacturer, until 1940. Then in 1940, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Army (received commission of second lieutenant at Lehigh University). His military career included the following: Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Replacement Center & Unit Training for Army Ordinance Depot; 82nd Ordnance Company in Benicia, Calif., Arsenal in 1940; 82nd Ordnance at Fort Ord, Calif., in 1941; 3rd Ordnance Battalion Headquarters, Camp Hahn, Calif.; 3rd Ordnance Battalion Headquarters, Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Ga. (2 years) - attained rank of first lieutenant; Tennessee Maneuver Area, Tennessee ñ attained rank of captain; and Hawaiian Ordnance Depot in Hawaii until end of war ñ 1945 ñ attained rank of lieutenant colonel. After serving in the military, he was employed at Baldwin Locomotive in Eddy Stone, Pa.; Baldwin Locomotive District Office, New York, N.Y.; Cummins Engine Co. Regional Office, New York, N.Y.; Cummins Engine Co. regional sales manager, Harrisburg, Pa.; and Cummins Engine Co., Baltimore, Md., as part of distributor organization of diesel engines until his retirement in 1978. Mr. Strohman was a member of the BPOE No. 2482, Severna Park, Md., and the Millersville 55+ Club. He attended St. Martin's in the Field in Severna Park, where he at one time served as a Boy Scout committee member. His hobbies included golf, reading, sports, lacrosse, playing bridge, and music (played clarinet). He married Hilda Groh White in 1948, who passed away in July 1990. Survivors include his stepson, Richard Brighton White of Fairfield, Pa.; his granddaughter, Kim Lien Strohman, of Arnold, Md., who provided care for him; his grandson, Michael Robert Strohman of Hamstead, Md.; a greatgrandson, Carter Strohman; and long-time companion, Laura Lewis of Severna Park, Md. Services were held at Barranco & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, January 28, 2008. Interment at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Md.
