Varvel, 58, of Shermans Dale passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in Cornwall on May 21, 1950, he was the son of the late Shockley and Mary Yurejefcic Varvel. He had worked as a truck driver, and was a member of the Teamsters Union and the American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by his son, Heath R. Varvel of Lemoyne; a daughter, Jennifer A. Varvel of Philadelphia; brothers William Varvel, Charles Varvel, Roy Varvel and Richard Varvel, all of Jonestown, and Larry Varvel of Lebanon; sisters Nancy Gagney of Conway, S.C., Jean Nelson of Lebanon and Mary Lerch of Highspire. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Varvel. Ralph's favorite times were those spent with his children on the sunny beaches of the Caribbean, and traveling to many places around the country on motorcycles with his son. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by Heath, Jennifer, and all those blessed by Ralph's presence in their lives. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Strauss-Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Jonestown. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
